Recreational Tumbling

 Tumbling is a dynamic form of acrobatic gymnastics where athletes perform flips, rolls, jumps, and other aerial movements on the floor or mat. It emphasizes the development of strength, flexibility, coordination, and balance. It’s a fun and exciting way to enhance physical fitness and body control while mastering new skills.

 Our coed Recreational Tumbling Classes are designed for athletes of all ages and abilities, from beginners to advanced students working on complex tricks. With levels ranging from 1 to 9, the program offers a structured path for athletes to progress at their own pace. Each level is thoughtfully designed to build on foundational tumbling techniques, ensuring students gain the skills they need to move forward confidently.

 To keep athletes motivated and connected to their progress, each level features a unique leotard uniform, representing both their accomplishments and commitment to the program. Whether your child is interested in having fun, staying active, or advancing their tumbling skills, our classes provide a supportive, positive environment to help them succeed.

 The tumbling skills for each level are outlined below.

What skills will we be learning?!

Beginning: Orange Leotard
Forward Roll
Jump onto block
Straight jumps on floor with legs together and arms straight
Start cartwheel, with/without feet over the top
Terminology Mastered (point, flex, straight legs, bent legs, pike, tuck, straight)
Head stand against the wall

Level 1: Hot Pink Leotard
Forward Roll w/ legs together and stand up with no hands
Bridge for 15 seconds without head touching
Cartwheel w/ both feet traveling above horizontal
Handstand with stomach against wall for 15 sec (coach can help get stomach to wall)
Kick to handstand and hold for 10 seconds with no assistance
Backwards over roller and land on feet.

Level 2: Dark Teal Leotard
Cartwheel w/ straight legs beginning and ending the correct way and feet over the top
Hold bridge for 30 seconds without head touching
Pike Forward Roll, Straddle Roll
Back pike roll down wedge, landing on feet
Kick to handstand, land in bridge on wedge
Kick up to handstand against wall and hold it for 30 seconds
Backward handstand against wall and hold for 30 seconds, then roll out and stand up with no hands
Be able to kick to handstand against wall 3 times without falling

Level 3: Light Blue Leotard
Cartwheel, beginning and ending correct way, hands and head in correct position
Round Off
One-handed Cartwheel
Backwards Pike Roll on flat mat
Kick to handstand and hold for 3 seconds (1 of 3 tries)
Handstand Forward roll
Handstand Bridge w/o touching head on flat mat
Kick over from bridge on wedge mat
Go back into a bridge from a stand on flat mat
Walk hands down wall into bridge and then back up to a stand
Plus all skills in Level I-II

Level 4: Purple Leotard
Pull up from Bridge
Kick over from bridge
Back handspring over roller
Backwards roll to pushup position (w/o belly dropping) and walk hands in
Hold handstand for 3 seconds first try
Back Walkover
Plus all skills in level III

Level 5: Ocean Blue Leotard
Back extension Roll
Front Walkover
Back handspring on flat mat with a light spot
Back handspring down wedge without spot
Plus all skills in Level IV

Level 6: Coral Leotard
Round-off back handspring, back handspring
Standing back handspring
Back-tuck with spot off block
Front handspring
Plus all skills in Level V

Level 7: Red Leotard
Round off, back handspring back tuck
Aerial cartwheel
Standing Back tuck
Standing 3 back handsprings
Plus all skills in Level VI

Level 8: Gunmetal Leotard
Round-off back handspring back layout
Standing 2 back handsprings to tuck
Round-off back handspring, whip, back handspring
Front Aerial
Punch Front

Level 9: Blush Leotard
Round-off back handspring full twist
Round-off back handspring, whip, back handspring, tuck/layout

DRESS CODE
​Top Tumble is dedicated to providing a safe and organized learning environment.   Top Tumble requires all students to be wearing their designated level leotards (girls) or level t-shirt (boys) purchased through Top Tumble.  The girl athletes may wear shorts/tight pants over their leotard if they wish.  Warm clothing will be allowed during warm-ups and stretching, but will need to be removed before training begins each class.
